HMD Is Bringing Back Fabula Design?!

So, HMD is bringing big changes, and according to the promotional renders, the most significant change might be in the design language. It seems that some old Nokia vibes are being brought back, including a CMYK color palette and the Fabula design language, first presented with the Nokia N9, and a polycarbonate body.

Renders posted by Roland Quandt do reveal a green Nokia device, but they also showcase an internal structure for a potential new HMD phone. This phone might not be the real deal, but it does represent an idea that Raun Forsyth might have been exploring with his team. The polycarbonate shell screams sustainability, as it can be derived from recycled materials. Also, it is easy to mold, and the extra durability will be achieved by internal aluminum elements. This way, aluminum is saved or can be used from old recycled Nokia devices.

One question arises here: If the Fabula design used for Lumia devices is considered for the first HMD device (Pulse and Legend – which might be borrowing design from the legendary N9?), why wasn’t it used for the next Nokia smartphone?

Abdulla pointed out something rather interesting. Now that HMD is out of Nokia’s control (or is soon going to be) and going full Fabula design, it all looks like Nokia didn’t want HMD to take that route for some reasons, for example, something patent or brand image related.

It might also be that HMD was planning on releasing a Nokia device with a new design, but Nokia’s change in strategy and vigorous shake-down of its old logo and brand recognition made them wait and save it for their own smartphone.

Anyhow, Nokia and HMD are now almost free of the weight that the rich past brought to the iconic brand, and there is a chance for a nice start. But only if HMD plays smart and goes with well-balanced hardware that will have a good design, display, and camera.
