Alcatel Returns to India with Locally Made Smartphones
|This is an interesting news. It seems that Alcatel, a former French tech brand managed by TCL under a Nokia license, will be re-entering the Indian smartphone market with a new lineup, starting with a stylus-equipped device aimed at the mass segment. The company is embracing the Make in India initiative, same as HMD did a few years ago, ensuring local production from the start.
This marks Alcatel’s return after its previous presence in the late ’90s, before shifting focus to telecom equipment under Nokia’s ownership in 2016. While details about the upcoming devices remain scarce, Alcatel’s global portfolio includes budget-friendly smartphones and tablets.
Alcatel is now the second brand eyeing India in 2025, following Acer, whose smartphone launch has been repeatedly delayed. With local manufacturing and a fresh lineup, Alcatel aims to carve out its space in India’s competitive smartphone market.
