Specifications of HMD Pulse, Pulse + and Pulse Pro

HMD announced three new smartphones rather quietly, or to be frank, it was more like announcing one smartphone in three variants. The HMD Pulse, Pulse+, and Pulse Pro are variations of an entry-level smartphone that is bringing the HMD brand into the spotlight. These phones uphold some old Nokia values such as quick repairability and OZO audio. Depending on the memory arrangement and hardware versions, the price of the phones will vary between €139 and €179 in Europe while the prices in the UK are a bit lower.

The common features among these phones include the Unisoc T606 processor, a 6.56’’ HD+ HID display with a 90Hz refresh rate and 480 nits of brightness, which can be boosted up to 600 nits, and a 5000 mAh battery with 10W charging in Pulse and Pulse+, or 20W charging in the Pro version.

The main differentiation between the variants, besides the battery charging, lies in the main and selfie cameras. The regular Pulse comes with a 13/8 MP main/selfie cam, the Pulse+ with a 54/8 MP main/selfie cam arrangement, while the Pro version boasts a 54 MP camera both at the back and front of the device. Additionally, there are some differences in the sensors, as the Pulse Pro will be equipped with an E-Compass.

Moreover, all the phones feature a 3-in-2 Hybrid SIM tray supporting Nano SIM + Nano SIM/MicroSD card, IP52 water resistance, Biometric face unlock, OZO Playback, and Android Enterprise Recommended signature.

FINGER ON THE PULSE

Tech innovator Human Mobile Devices (HMD) reveals the first original HMD collection:  HMD Pulse Pro, HMD Pulse+ and HMD Pulse

  • Sleek lines, chilled tones, modern aesthetics and hyped hues characterise HMD’s fresh new look
  • New research from HMD reveals 41% of Gen Z would be more likely to purchase an electrical device if they could repair it themselves at home
  • HMD predicts that three out of every four devices it sells in Europe in 2024 will be repairable, up from one in three in 2023
  • HMD Pulse+ and HMD Pulse are available now online at hmd.com and coming soon to Vodafone and O2 stores nationwide, and the HMD Pulse Pro is coming soon

Tech innovator Human Mobile Devices (HMD) has today revealed its first line of smartphones under the original HMD line: HMD Pulse Pro, HMD Pulse+ and HMD Pulse.

The HMD Pulse collection sets the tone for HMD’s original line: clean lines, calm tones, modern aesthetics, elegant repairability and bold, brazen design at an accessible price.

CMO of Human Mobile Devices, Lars Silberbauer, comments: “We’ve got our finger on the pulse, and recognise consumers’ needs and anticipate market trends; repair is the cornerstone of a fresh chapter in smartphone innovation. Forget the ordinary, this is a new era of smartphone sophistication with substance.”

Ben Wood, Chief Analyst CCS insight, said: “Repairability is a hot topic for consumers, and CCS insight has seen interest in repairing mobile phones increase significantly in both the EU and US over the last year. Approximately 55% of those surveyed in the EU said they would like to have a device that’s outside its warranty period repaired at a reasonable cost rather than replacing it with a new device. In the US interest is also strong, at an impressive 49%. We also note that 47% of EU consumers and 48% of US consumers express readiness to pay slightly more for environmentally friendly products, which underlines an appetite for more repairable products.”1

Wood goes onto say: “HMD has been a trailblazer for more repairable smartphones. It’s encouraging that the HMD Pulse Family is even easier for consumers to repair, and this design decision aligns well with the consumer trends we are seeing in our research”. Ben Wood, Chief Analyst, CCS Insight.

Kyle Wiens, CEO of iFixit, comments: “HMD has just announced its fourth repairable device: HMD Pulse Pro. HMD’s ongoing commitment to designing phones with repairability in mind is an encouraging shift in our throwaway culture, proving that HMD has the innovative culture needed to drive advances in repairability. We’re keen to collaborate as they work towards making repairable phones the norm, not the exception.”

The HMD Pulse Collection

Each device in the new HMD Pulse range is built to be repairable, HMD calls it ‘Gen 1 repairability’, empowering owners to replace a damaged display, bent charging port, or a depleted battery, without an engineering degree. Users can simply pick up a self-repair kit in partnership with iFixit, starting from £17.99.2

This commitment gives a nod to the younger generation as they continue to spearhead the FIY (fix-it-yourself) trend, with new research from HMD revealing 41% of Gen Z would be more likely to purchase an electrical device if they could repair it themselves at home.4 HMD predicts that three out of every four devices it sells in Europe in 2024 will be repairable, up from one in three in 2023, demonstrating a significant shift in consumer purchase habits.
