HMD almost revealed the Nokia original device
|HMD announced their new strategy this February, comprising Nokia original devices, partner devices, and devices created for their own brand. All we received were super pixelated images, causing us quite a bit of trouble deciphering what the next Nokia device could be. Some rumors and earlier releases led many to believe it might be a new 5G version of the Nokia 3310, which would make sense given that HMD kicked off the story with the revamped 3310. Some, myself included, speculated it might be the new banana phone or Nokia 8110, as when you squint your eyes, the silhouette resembles that device. Plus, it’s yellow, so…
However, earlier rumors were suggesting that HMD might be considering resurrecting the legend I hold dearest, the Nokia 3210. This iconic phone celebrates its 25th birthday today, and HMD also joined the celebration by expressing congratulations across social channels. If you take a look at the doodle of the Nokia 3210 HMD posted, I believe it’s evident which Nokia device we’ll be seeing in May. It’s also no coincidence that the link HMD provided in the post directs you to their page, where the first device you encounter is that yellow, pixelated Nokia.
Of course, HMD representatives may refute any connections we draw here, but I find it quite obvious, don’t you? Or perhaps I’m mistaken. Well, as usual, only time will tell. What interests me most is whether KaiOS, some forked OS will power it, or if it will be a missed opportunity like the gorgeously designed 6310, which felt cheap with its s30+ OS.
I am glad that HMD is considering reviving such a legend. One reason I liked the 6310 was because it reminded me slightly of the 3210. My expectation is that it will resemble the Nokia 3310 from 2017.
