Nokia 3210 is 25 years old today

Today marks the 25th anniversary of the Nokia 3210, known as the seventh best-selling phone ever. The phone was announced on 18 March 1999. It sold over 160 million units and helped Nokia beat Motorola as the top mobile phone maker at the time.

The Nokia 3210 was designed by Alastair Curtis in Nokia’s Los Angeles Design Center, overseen by legendary Nokia designer Frank Nuovo. Curtis mentioned several times that he loved the 3210 because it was his first design to actually hit the market.

Just look at this beauty.

I owned this phone and I liked it because of its unique design. Actually, this phone was Nokia’s first popular phone with an antenna built-in. Also, you could easily personalize it with different covers, a feature first seen on the Nokia 5110. That’s why it was nicknamed Chameleon. However, while in the 5110 you could only change the front cover, on the 3210, you could switch both the front and rear covers.

The Nokia 3210 was later replaced by the famous Nokia 3310, which also did well, it only sold 128 million units.
