HMD to announce new features Fusion and Pulse

HMD Global is preparing to launch its smartphone brand, which is going to introduce some new features according to EUIPO. HMD has registered two new trademarks at the European Intellectual Property Office named HMD Fusion and HMD Pulse, which the company is trying to protect.

The trademarks are filed under class number 9 according to the Nice Classification, which refers to trademarks used on mobile phones. The trademarks Pureview, Xpress-ON, PureDisplay, as well as SpeedWarp, were filed under the same classification.

Information about the new features is scarce, but one will surely be implemented on the HMD Pulse phone, which should be announced at MWC and will be available in three versions: regular, Plus, and Pro.

I really don’t have any information regarding the Pulse or Fusion. I know that Pulse is a remote camera trigger for Canon and Nikon DSLRs, which allows users to wirelessly control the shutter and adjust various settings from their smartphone. Perhaps HMD collaborated with Nikon to introduce some new camera features on their smartphone.

Maybe HMD is bringing a pulsating light show similar to the Nothing phone. Breathing light was a thing back in the Symbian days of Nokia smartphones, and as history tends to repeat itself, maybe that is the thing HMD is bringing back again. Remember, we had it on Nokia 3.2 and later on Nokia 4.2, 7.2, and lastly on 5.3.

Fusion could be a camera feature that uses a new way to fuse pixels in order to improve photos. My guess here is as good as any other since information about new phones and features is tight, or leakers don’t find it interesting to leak.

The application is currently under examination, and there is a chance HMD won’t get the approval to protect it as a trademark. The same happened with face unlock. Anyway, on Sunday, we’ll know more.
