Nokia G60 getting updates and new release date

Nokia G60 and Nokia X30 might have some resemblance, but these two devices are completely different in build quality and hardware specs. However, G60 is a promising affordable 5G midranger that brings Snapdragon 695 5G processor, 120Hz refresh rate, and a 50MP triple AI camera. This phone should soon be available in India where Nokia Mobile has a strong fan base. Nokia Mobile is going to open pre-orders soon with some offers included.

The phone came to the market with the August security patch and our unit still has it, probably because it takes time for carriers and Nokia Mobile to adjust all the market-specific settings. Anyways, the October security patch is out and available for download. The patch has 54.21MB of data and the installation is smooth.  If you still don’t see the update, you can try using VPN as suggested in tips by our reader MickeyBAus. I tried but still couldn’t get a new update for X30 or G60.

Another thing Mickey mentioned is that the update is dated 1 October. Apparently, Google has two levels of patches, 1st of the month is more generic, while 5th is coming with the additional shorebird updates. 1st-of-month updates have to include the previous 5th-of-month updates. It’s designed so manufacturers can get the bulk of the updates out without too much delay as they should be common across all devices.

On many or all Nokia devices, I have 5th-of-the-month updates. I haven’t seen 1st of the month since Nokia hasn’t been using it before. As Mickey suggested, if Nokia Mobile starts using it, we might see a better update flow and reliability of delivery.
