Camera comparison: Nokia 808 PureView and Lumia 1020 against Google Pixel 3
|The revolution of smartphone photography happened with the Nokia 808 PureView and its second version, Nokia Lumia 1020. Just until recently, many smartphone manufacturers tried to dethrone Nokia which was a king of smartphone photography, and in 2018 we finally got phones that have better and more competitive cameras. Huawei Mate 20 has the largest sensor in the smartphone market, but Nokia 808 and Lumia 1020 had even bigger sensors.
Big sensors aren’t crucial in achieving the best photos. Software plays a big role also. Steve Litchfield from AllAboutSymbian portal showed in a camera comparison how Pixel 3 and its camera app can beat Nokia’s great camera setup. Steve teamed up Nokia 808 PW and Lumia 1020 cameras against the latest Pixel 3 camera and showed that great camera followed with a great app can have an advantage of the great hardware.
If you check the comparison photos taken, you’ll notice that Nokia camera monsters dominated when the light conditions were great, zooming required and when Xenon flash was needed to freeze the house party moment. Macro shots and night shots were better with Pixel 3 camera, and generally where algorithms were playing an important role in creating photos.
Nokia 808 and Lumia 1020 have a pretty outdated software, but Google Pixel even beat the superb Nokia Lumia 950 with newer algorithms in Steve’s camera duel.
Do check the comparison because it is always fun to see Nokia camera legends fighting new players on the market.
