October update reportedly disables Bootloader unlock service for Nokia 8

Nokia 8 users from XDA forums are reporting that the Bootloader Unlock service HMD Global introduced a month ago for the Nokia 8 isn’t working if the Nokia 8 is updated to the latest “October” security level.

A year ago, HMD Global promised to unlock the bootloader of their Nokia devices and allow more advanced users to further customize their devices at their own risk. Last month official bootloader unlock method was provided for the Nokia 8. Nokia Mobile offers a guide how to do that here.

On XDA forums multiple users stated that their Nokia 8 running October update isn’t supported for bootloader unlock. User under the usernameĀ THMSP took a deeper dive inside HMD’s app for bootloader unlock and concluded that a property needed to do the unlocking is missing from the phone with October update. He goes in details about the issue at XDA here.

If you own a Nokia 8 and can confirm this story, leave a comment here and/or at XDA. If anyone from HMD is reading, please look into it. šŸ™‚
