After examining one of the previous versions of Nokia Camera app, we found something called Nokia 8 Sirocco. Sirocco, alongside being a kind of wind, is familiar to us as an updated version of Nokia 8800, where one version was also gold-plated.
Blog mobielkopen.nl discovered that Nokia TA-1005 (Nokia 8 Sirocco) was certified in Thailand. Up until now, we believed that Nokia TA-1005 is, in fact, Nokia 9. The list of Nokia model numbers was leaked where we could clearly see the Nokia 9 variants TA-1005, TA-1009, TA-1042.
But how can Nokia 9 and Nokia 8 Sirocco both carry the model number TA-1005? One of the answers is that Nokia decided not to call the Nokia 9 Nokia 9, but instead Nokia 8 Sirocco, as an upgraded version of Nokia 8. According to rumors, the rumored Nokia 9 really seems to be an updated version of Nokia 8, instead of a noticeably better model.
This news brings confusion, because we have the same model number reported under two different commercial names. I’m not sure, and don’t want to further speculate. We will know everything on the 25th February at HMD’s press conference.
