HMD might be preparing a Lumia-inspired Skyline 2

HMD’s latest summer teaser is doing exactly what it was probably meant to do, wake up old Nokia fans (if any left out there).

One of the blurred devices clearly shows a centrally placed circular camera module, and that immediately brings back Lumia memories. This could be the HMD Skyline 2, or perhaps another Skyline-family device, but for now nothing is official.

The prototype image also shows three pins on the back, which could point to smart covers or modular accessories with different uses. Maybe something similar to Fusion outfits, but hopefully in a cleaner and more useful form.

Camera tips suggest a rather serious setup: possibly a 108 MP main camera with OIS and PDAF, a 50 MP telephoto, another (50 MP?) camera with EIS and autofocus, plus LED flash and maybe a colour sensor. Since these are still unofficial details, a bit of caution is needed.

Still, the idea is promising, although many peaces of the puzzle are missing. A Skyline successor with a central camera module, stronger imaging hardware, colourful design and accessory pins could be exactly the kind of nostalgia-packed phone HMD needs.

Now HMD just needs to get the software, camera processing, update support and price right. Summer could actually be interesting.
