The first HMD device gets certified in 2024

Update 15.01.2024.

HMD Global was present at CES 2024, but the company didn’t showcase any new devices for the US market. Now, the focus turns to MWC 2024, where we can expect the Finns to turn a new page and reshape the company completely. Nokia phones might not be in primary focus this time. HMD is launching its own smartphone brand, and we’ll also see other brands presented by HMD along with Nokia classics.

While there are hints that HMD is working on a new device, I am surprised at how well leaks are being suppressed. There is essentially no information and the bits that surface are coming from certificates, which must be procured before the worldwide market launch.

EUIPO indicates that HMD is preparing two devices, but the first certificate in 2024 for an HMD-labeled product is for a 10W charger. This isn’t unexpected, but I personally hoped for something more powerful.

The 10W charger is certified under two model names, HAD-010A and UT-680S-5200MY. The latter is also used by TCL (most likely for a BT keyboard), indicating it is meant for a device in the low-end category.

The information from the certificate is basic; it’s a charger with an output of 5Vdc and 2.0A, totalling 10.0W. What’s intriguing is that the charger is intended for use with AV/IT equipment, suggesting that we might see other equipment announced by HMD. AV/IT equipment can represent phones and can encompass a variety of devices.

I prefer not to speculate further, so let’s conclude here. The first device certified by HMD in 2024 is a charger. Neat!

Update 15.01.2024:

Update: Just checked the certificate page again, and there could be an error on their side regarding how the page connects the listings. Sometimes it connects the charger with HMD Global, sometimes it doesn’t… It connects HMD (seen in the address bar) with HMD Global Oy, and those two might be a different entity. Device.report seemed like a page that could be trusted.
