About a month ago, a 5G Nokia smartphone with the codename Shadow, model number TA-1573, and software version for the US leaked on FCC. The manufacturer of the production unit used for testing is Ontim (Chino-E). The certification also revealed that TA-1573 supports NFC, 2.4 and 5GHz Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.1, and uses the same 5000 mAh battery (HQ610) as the Nokia G400 5G.

Nokia Shadow has been appearing on Geekbench since April 20 with 4 and 6 GB of RAM powered by the Snapdragon 480+ processor on Android 13. However, its commercial name remained unknown.

At May-end, a retailer and user agent listing divulged details of a device going by the name Nokia G42 5G. Donning Grey and Purple colours, the Nokia G42 5G was listed with 6 GB of RAM paired with 128 GB of internal storage, a 720 x 1612 p display, and Android 13. Although there were some hints, more information was required to link the Nokia Shadow and Nokia G42 5G.

Now, that gap has been bridged by the new Geekbench listing of the Nokia G42 5G carrying Shadow as the motherboard name and Adreno 619 as the GPU. Its 4 GB variant recorded a single-core score of 738 and a multi-core score of 1718. In compute results, it scored 871 points in the Vulkan test and 999 in the OpenCL test.

Additionally, a new certification by China Quality Certification Center presents a few more details about the device. The Nokia G42 5G also has the model numbers TA-1581 and TA-1591 apart from TA-1573 and supports at least 20 W charging.

There has been a dearth of affordable 5G smartphones from Nokia Mobile, with Nokia G50 being the cheapest yet, starting at €230 (₹20370, $247) during its launch in 2021. Nokia G42 5G must be aiming to break that lower price barrier of 5G Nokia smartphones, and with all these certifications coming up, its launch does not seem too far.
