Nokia Mobile teases the Nokia XR20 in one of the toughest tests

Nokia XR20Nokia Mobile’s forthcoming smartphone is going to be all about toughness, durability, and survival in the harshest conditions. It is called the Nokia XR20. The company had already showcased the rugged back of the device in a teaser, which was posted on the community forum a few days ago and then removed after a few hours on the same day.

In another picture posted today on the social media handles, the Nokia XR20 was clicked after being dropped into a container filled with ice cubes and water. Apart from the complete protection against water, it also gives a glimpse of both the color variants. The Grey color is visible above the water level with the dual-camera setup, while the Blue color is half-submerged shining in the sun.

The Nokia XR20 brings a fresh approach to the Nokia phones portfolio in terms of design. Not only is it the first rugged phone from Nokia Mobile, but it also features a squarish rear camera module, the first in any Nokia smartphone. Given the Android Enterprise Recommended requirements for the Rugged Devices 11.0, the Nokia XR20 will have to feature a minimum of IP54 ingress protection and MIL-STD-810G or IEC 62-2-32 standard of drop test integrity.

Other than that, it will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 480 5G platform and Android 11. At the back, it will feature a 48 MP primary camera and another 13 MP camera, while there is an 8 MP camera on the front. It packs a 4630 mAh battery and 4 or 6 GB of RAM coupled with 128 GB of internal storage.

I am not sure of the prices of the 5G rugged smartphones, but as per the retailers, the 4/64 GB (base) variant of the Nokia XR20 will cost as much as £424.58 (€490, ₹43100, US$577) in the UK.

Nokia Mobile is all set to host a launch event for the Nokia XR20 on July 27. The company might also utilize the event to announce the Nokia C30 and Nokia 6310.
