Nokia sells parts of its cable business to Vecima

This week, Nokia announced the sales of part of its cable business to Canadian company Vecima Networks. The sale includes Nokia’s Gainspeed (“DOCSIS Distributed Access Architecture and EPON/DPoE”) portfolio, with Nokia further streamlining its cable business.

The acquired products and technology will be integrated into Vecima’s existing Entra Distributed Access product suite, with Nokia’s employees working on that products moving to Vecima. Nokia will retain its cable-related products in areas of mobile, routing, transport, fiber, and fixed wireless access. Nokia and Vecima will also together address “unified cable access opportunities”.

Translated from business speak, this means Nokia sold part of its cable business, but will continue working with Vecima not to disrupt any remaining products, solutions and customer relationships. The worth of Vecima’s acquisition wasn’t announced.
