With the ongoing rollout of 5G network and expansion of existing capacities because of the bandwidth demand caused by COVID-19 pandemic, Nokia and other networks company are making a lot of deals and have their hands full. In their recent press release, Nokia announced that they signed a deal with China Unicom regarding the buildout of the operator’s standalone 5G network.
Nokia already has a working relationship with China Unicom in regards to 4G networks and will continue cooperating now with a 5G deal. Nokia’s share of the business on China Unicom’s 5G core network is around 10%, which might not sound much but is a significant share considering the recent troubles Nokia had in China and geopolitical situation in general.
