MWC Barcelona 2020 is officially cancelled
Earlier today Nokia and Nokia Mobile announced its cancellation of the attendance at MWC 2020. Now the official cancellation of the whole Mobile World Congress event due to the fear of novel coronavirus outbreak has been announced. The statement was delivered by John Hofmann, the president of the GSMA association. GSMA decided to cancel the most important event in the mobile phone and telco industry to help preserve the city of Barcelona safe and healthy. The global concern regarding the coronavirus outbreak, travel concern and other circumstances, made it impossible for the GSMA to hold the event.
While this decision might be hard for all the people that really like this event that brings new products to the hungry eyes of the end consumers, it is the right one. This will help reduce the risk of coronavirus spreading even more, but also indicates that profit is not in front of reasonable judgment based on facts. Millions will be lost today, but a million lives might be saved.
MWC is special to me, and I attended a few events myself or with the crew of our partner site mob.hr. Well, we’ll wait for the MWC2021, and in the meantime hope that the virus will end up like Zika or SARS-CoV. We sympathize with all the people that are affected by the outbreak and hope they are safe.
