One of the pillars of Nokia Mobile’s Android strategy, that has been usually problematic in the Android world, is regular updates. “Pure. Secure. And Up To Date.” is the motto we often here and thus far HMD has been backing those promises up with deeds.
The first globally available Nokia Mobile smartphones made by HMD Global were announced a year and half ago at MWC2017 in Barcelona and HMD promised then 2 years of Android upgrades for the whole lineup. HMD’s lineup consists of 80 dollar phones like the Nokia 1, 800 dollar phones like the 8 Sirocco and everything between, so it is a bold promise.
Suomimobiili.fi got an official confirmation from HMD Global that all Nokia smartphones announced this far will be updated to Android 9 Pie. That info isn’t new considering HMD’s promises, but it is good to have an official confirmation for the whole lineup, not only the Android One Devices as Google confirmed in their announcement statement of Android Pie. The full list of Nokia Mobile smartphones that will get Android Pie follows down below.
Keep in mind that probably not all phones will get the update at the same time and it can take a few months, if not more, until the whole lineup is updated to Pie, but the update will come eventually. Also, there is no point of asking when the update will be available for a particular device, because Nokia Mobile probably won’t give precise dates in case something happens and they have to delay the update.
From the current portfolio, Nokia 2 is still not officially running Android 8 Oreo, but Android 8 is available via Beta Labs. We can say that Nokia Mobile did a mistake in launching Nokia 2 before Android 8.1 GO was ready, because it’s obvious that updates for Nokia 2 take more time than expected.
Hi, Android Pie will be available for the Nokia 3, 5, 6 and 8. Roll-out will be phased as usual to secure quality delivery. Nokia 7 Plus is part of the Android One program, which guarantees two years of software updates, including Pie.
