ZEISS patented camera module with optical zoom that we could see in Nokia 9?! + Tip about 2, 7, 8 & 9

HMD Global and ZEISS signed a deal recently that will ensure great camera quality on the future Android running Nokia phones. Nokia and ZEISS started this story way back in 2005 so it seems logical that those two brands stick together in the future.

Moreover, future is looking bright since ZEISS is developing new camera technologies that could be seen in future Nokia smartphones. WinFuture.de dug up the patent that ZEISS got in March 2017. The patent describes the new camera module that will have optical zoom capability. The main idea is to change the focusing lens between the imaging sensor and the main lens. Those zooming lens will be movable inside the camera module if I got it correctly. What is more important, ZEISS plans to use this new module just for the mobile phones, and guess with whom it has exclusive partnership.

So, we know that Nokia 8 will get the ZEISS lens (maybe even sensor and algorithms?) and Nokia 9 could bring the new innovative optical zoom. However, the main question that remains is when. HMD obviously has a problem delivering the smartphones to the market that probably cost Arto Nummela of his CEO position.

We all know that today is easy to fool everyone with false info regarding the arrival of the new Nokia phones since we all want to see them in stores, and in our hands.

Recently we received some new insider info regarding the arrival of the new Nokia devices, specifically Nokia 2, 7 and 9, which is set for Berlin IFA congress (we unfortunately can’t confirm any of this but it seems logical). The same source claims that Nokia 8 could be launched there also but since we saw pretty much fully created promotional renders of the Nokia 8, maybe there is a chance to see it by the end of this month.

Anyway, Nokia’s 7, 8 and 9 will have ZEISS optics according the source and if ZEISS is really planning to bring its new camera module and algorithms with the Nokia 9, Berlin IFA seems reasonable timing to do that. It gives ZEISS and HMD enough time to sort everything out and produce substantial amount of the devices to push it to the market in a matter of 2 or 3 weeks.

Regarding the Nokia 8, personally thing that it is needed now just to bring the focus back to HMD and to give something out from the flagship domain. Samsung Galaxy 8, LG G6, OnePlus 5 are pretty much similar phones and Nokia 8 has a chance with its current known specs (rumoured: 4GB RAM, 64 GB ROM, Snapdragon 835, ZEISS and OIS). However, it needs to come to the market in a matter of weeks.

Regarding the Nokia 9, if it comes with revolutionary camera module followed by some great hardware specs (rumoured: Snapdragon 835, 6GB RAM, 128 GB ROPM, ip68, OIS and optical zoom), largest photography congress is a place for ZEISS and Nokia (HMD Global) to show some muscle to the competition like the Huawei (has the partnership with Leica), LG, Samsung and others.

Definitely bright and interesting times are ahead of us.

Thanks to the Muerte and Nokiainsider for the tips.
