Leadership Change at HMD Global
Espoo, Finland 19 July 2017 – HMD Global today announced that through mutual agreement between Chief Executive Officer Arto Nummela and the HMD Global Board of Directors, Arto Nummela will leave HMD with immediate effect.
Commenting on the changes, Sam Chin, Chairman of the Board, HMD Global Oy said: “Arto Nummela has played a key role in the creation of the HMD Global operation, building the team and launching our first products. On behalf of the whole Board, I thank Arto for his contribution and wish him well in his future endeavors.”
In addition to his current role as President, Florian Seiche has been appointed to the role of acting CEO, starting immediately. Florian has been co-leading HMD Global as President since the start of the company.

It’s not clear why Arto left the company, but it’s not a secret that HMD didn’t succeed in delivering the Nokia 3, 5 and 6 in the promised timeline, and that’s maybe him taking responsibility. That’s just me guessing, so don’t take it as a fact.

What? Just before Nokia 8 launch (if it’s true). There’s something wrong with this

  • Hi Eero! Do you remember me?
I shipped you Aqua Fish from India 😊

Sad to see Arto leave, but that’s how companies work. Shuffles are usual ☺️

What the hell is this? How can he leave company??πŸ™„

The whole rollout has been a Clownshow.

They still can only sell devices to…less…than…half…of the US market.

      • Their Nokia 6 isn’t out of stock in US

I think its good decision that Arto is leaving company immediately. The main reason could be the Board had been continuosly making pressure on him as HMD could not pick up the pace which it was supposed to pick.πŸ™

If a phone is not available global even after 6 months of announcement then its very shameful and CEO must be responsible.πŸ™„
Product critisim could also be a factor(as many donot like 3310, and upcoming Nokia 8 design) and Board would have asked Arto to leave.πŸ™„

I am very eager to see that whom HMD hires as next CEO. Any suggestions??

    • The answer lies in the title of this article itself.πŸ˜œπŸ˜‚
Florian Seiche is the new CEO of HMD Global. 😊

He is interim CEO. I am asking about full time CEO???

    • Rocky

Well, they need a major event like MWC to introduce them, but also they need to behave like Nokia before (global present, the best customer services, manufacturing, etc), it’s normal for me if they can’t fulfill customers demand now

I am terrified with Arto’s decision that I couldn’t sleep yesterday properly. It was always a pleasure watching him making announcements at the stage or his interview.

Now, i feel that the Nokia brand won’t shine as before as Arto has unique vision towards shaping Nokia ahead. I think we should accept the Nokia isn’t that Nokia anymore because the Nokia 6 ,5 and 3 is facing a lot of criticism in terms of their performance and we Nokia fans are trying to praise it ,though, deep inside we too know the truth. And majority of Nokia engineers aren’t in Nokia/HMD global who rose Nokia to its full glory .

Do you feel HMD global will rise ? Are there any consequences Arto’s leaving the company?

    Do comment your thoughts..

    • Someone had to take responsibility and he was the first in the line. CEO is an important figure, but if you broke your promise to customers or the board (available in Q2), you have take it.
I think they will grow into an respectable company because they have a unique business model and approach that could allow them to move very quickly on the market.

Hmd global has just started. Task that hmd global has taken up is very challenging in this fierce competition out there . His finnish roots and his decades long Nokia career made him the most suited person for CEO and resurrecting Nokia to its former glory.

Now …Florian Sieche is from HTC and htc hasn’t done well since samsung coming to android game. So i doubt regarding his leadership at HMD. Now it would be a dream come true if Arto joins HMD back(though the reason behind his resignation is still unclear).

Otherwise, A successful Candidate who has shown his worth in Nokia before should be the CEO as we want the True Nokia finnish products(as history says non-finnish elop destroyed everything)

        • Florian has been the President of HMD since day one. He is the best option to replace the CEO at the moment, because he knows the situation in the company.

          • Deep Shekhar

yeah…we can hope everything goes as expected or better than that.
