StreamView bankruptcy ends Nokia and Thomson TV era globally

StreamView is officially out of the game. The Austria-based StreamView GmbH has filed for bankruptcy in Vienna, confirming what many in the industry had already suspected.
The company accumulated debts of €36.6 million and, importantly, stated it will not submit a restructuring plan, effectively marking the end of its operations.
StreamView played a key role in bringing Nokia branded TVs, media boxes, and streaming devices to market. After its partnership with Nokia ended, the company shifted focus to the Thomson brand, continuing with Google TV sets, streaming sticks, and media players. However, that transition did not secure long-term stability.
According to the company, three main factors led to the collapse: rising operational costs, trade barriers, and issues with a Chinese partner. Combined with increasing component prices and global trade pressures, these challenges proved too much.
Competition also played a significant role. Brands like Hisense and others have been aggressively pushing affordable TVs and smart devices, making it difficult for StreamView to compete.
Interestingly, the bankruptcy comes just weeks after StreamView introduced an upgraded Chromecast-like streaming device, suggesting that even new product launches were not enough to reverse its financial trajectory.

For Nokia fans, this marks the definitive end of an era where Nokia-branded TVs and streaming hardware had a clear presence in the European market through a dedicated partner. I must say that my Nokia smart TV and Nokia box still work like a charm. I’ll keep them running untill they break appart :).
Thanks DBS for the tip 😉
