Qualcomm announced new midrange processor Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 that works on 4nm process
|Nokia fans are hungry for a proper midrange device that will be powered with a proper midrange processor. The best we have seen so far is the Qualcomm SM6375, also known as the Snapdragon 695 5G, built on a 6 nm process (XR21 for example), while others have the Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 (Poco F5 for example).
However, there is a chance we might see a Nokia device with a better processor since a new midrange processor has been announced.
Qualcomm has officially introduced its latest mid-range mobile processor – the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3. It is manufactured using the TSMC 4nm process and comes with a 1+3+4 core configuration, which is a modern architecture many are now using. The Kryo CPU, serving as the primary and most powerful core, operates at a frequency of 2.63 GHz. The next three cores run at 2.4 GHz, while the remaining four operate at 1.8 GHz.
Qualcomm claims that this processor brings a 15% improvement in CPU performance and a 50% faster Adreno GPU compared to its predecessor. It is also stated to enable a 20% energy savings.
The Qualcomm Hexagon NPU inside the new processor is expected to offer 60% faster AI performance than the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. The Adreno GPU supports OpenGL ES 3.2, OpenCL 2.0 FP, and Vulkan 1.3 APIs. The new Qualcomm chip also supports 4K displays at a 60Hz refresh rate or FHD+ resolution at 168Hz. It is equipped with the Qualcomm Spectra ISP, which can handle main camera modules up to 200 MP and record 4K HDR video at 60 Hz.
Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 also introduces the X63 5G Modem with a system that ensures download speeds of up to 5 Gbps, including mmWave and sub-6 GHz frequency spectrums. In terms of connectivity, there is support for Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 standards.
The first devices featuring the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 are expected to be introduced this month, with Honor and Vivo mentioned as key manufacturers adopting it.
Is it time for the Nokia device to come with a capable midrange chipset? I wouldn’t mind the new 7s Gen 2 which is also built in 4nm process. Maybe Juho Sarvikas can arrange a nice deal for his ex-colleagues :).
