The OnePlus 16 is a 9,000mAh Beast You Can’t Buy in the US or Europe

After its strategic retreat from the US and European markets earlier this year, OnePlus has officially unveiled its latest flagship, the OnePlus 16, exclusively for the Chinese market. While Western consumers will have to sit this one out, the newly launched device represents a massive leap forward on paper, prioritizing extreme battery endurance, blazing-fast refresh rates, and top-tier mobile processing.
Built for heavy performance, the OnePlus 16 is powered by the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor. To sustain peak performance during intensive gaming or heavy multitasking, OnePlus has integrated an upgraded “Glacier” vapor chamber cooling system, which the company claims operates 40% more efficiently than previous iterations. The phone also features dedicated custom chips to optimize network connectivity, display rendering, and touch responsiveness.
The most jaw-dropping specification is undoubtedly its power cell. The OnePlus 16 boasts a colossal 9,000mAh battery—a massive upgrade from the already substantial 7,300mAh unit found in the OnePlus 15. It supports 100W wired and 50W wireless charging, with the company promising an 80% charge in just 37 minutes via the wired connection. OnePlus also claims the battery health will remain robust for at least five years.
On the visual front, OnePlus is pushing boundaries with a 185Hz OLED display. Crucially, addressing a specific pain point from the OnePlus 15, the new device allows the system UI and millions of supported applications to run natively at 165Hz.
Photography sees a significant overhaul as well, rectifying the hardware downgrades criticized in the previous generation. The rear module is headlined by a 200-megapixel primary sensor (1/1.4-inch, f/1.6), joined by a 50-megapixel ultrawide lens and a 50-megapixel 3x telephoto camera utilizing a much larger 1/1.95-inch IMX882 sensor. The camera software will support full-resolution 200MP capture and an ultra-wide XPAN-style 65:24 aspect ratio mode. A 50-megapixel front-facing camera handles selfies.
Aesthetically, the OnePlus 16 will be available in Dark Forest, Mars Masterpiece, and Tomorrow’s Starlight. The latter features an integrated rear LED lighting array that displays a glowing “16” and other geometric accents.
While official pricing was withheld during the launch livestream, the phone will be offered in configurations ranging from 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage up to a massive 16GB/1TB tier. Unfortunately for fans in North America and Europe, this high-octane flagship will remain a China-exclusive release.
