Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra Camera Redesign: Case Leaks Reveal Missing Laser AF Cutout

Samsung is reportedly preparing its most significant rear-camera overhaul in years for its upcoming “Ultra” flagship. While a fresh wave of protective case leaks has provided a clearer picture of the device’s physical layout, it has simultaneously introduced a new mystery by leaving a crucial camera component completely unaccounted for.

Earlier computer-aided design (CAD) renders and preliminary information indicated that an elongated section on the rear module would house three specific hardware elements: the telephoto camera, the LED flash, and the Laser Autofocus (AF) sensor. The Laser AF system has been a staple in recent Ultra generations, relied upon heavily for delivering rapid, accurate focusing capabilities, particularly in low-light environments.

However, the latest case leaks from Ice Universe reveal only two cutouts in this designated area, raising immediate questions about the fate of the third component.

Historically, Samsung has positioned the Laser AF unit at the top of the camera array. Integrating both the 5x telephoto lens and the Laser AF system into a single, shared top cutout would be a highly unusual and surprising engineering choice. Because the Laser AF sensor remains a vital part of the flagship’s imaging system, it is highly possible that the component will receive a separate, relocated cutout elsewhere within the large camera decoration.

For now, the exact placement of the autofocus hardware remains a mystery, though further leaks are expected to clarify the final camera architecture as the device moves closer to its official launch window.
