Serving as the next major software leap for Xiaomi, Redmi, and Xiaomi Pad devices, the update is built upon three foundational pillars: deep system performance optimization, a completely redesigned “Soft Light Glass” interface, and the debut of the advanced Super XiaoAi 2.0 AI assistant.

Bringing generative content tools, enhanced productivity features, and tighter ecosystem integration, HyperOS 4 represents one of Xiaomi’s most ambitious software projects to date. However, it is important to note that the current announcements and beta rollouts apply exclusively to the Chinese market, with global availability remaining unconfirmed.

Xiaomi HyperOS 4: Under the Hood: Faster Apps and Better Efficiency

At the core of HyperOS 4 lies an upgraded foundational layer called HyperCore. Through what the company terms “precise workload calculation,” the system actively monitors and optimizes processes at the instruction level. The result is a 14.4 percent reduction in total instruction count compared to its predecessor. In practical terms, devices require less processing power for everyday actions like opening apps or navigating screens, resulting in modest battery gains (roughly 15 extra minutes in benchmark tests).

Furthermore, Xiaomi has introduced an AI-driven memory preloading system that anticipates user needs and prepares RAM accordingly. According to the company, after eight hours of active use, a device running HyperOS 4 retains 27.2 percent more available memory than one on HyperOS 3. This dramatically reduces app reload times (launch times drop by 17.5 percent in heavy usage scenarios) and significantly cuts down on frame drops during extended sessions.

“Life Aesthetics”: A Design Grounded in Light and Glass

Xiaomi has dubbed its new visual identity Life Aesthetics, anchored by a core interface element called Soft Light Glass. Rather than a physical display layer, this is a sophisticated design language utilizing translucent surfaces, soft reflections, and adaptive transparency that reacts dynamically to underlying content and swipe gestures.

Users will notice immediate changes on the lock and home screens. The lock screen now offers deep customization, including flexible clock layouts and premium “glass” clock effects (reserved for select flagship models). Notifications neatly stack to free up visual space, while the home screen introduces advanced widget stacking and more fluid folder animations.

Xiaomi HyperOS 4 Ecosystem: Seamless Multi-Device Control

Xiaomi’s vision of a connected smart home and office takes a step forward with the redesigned Fusion Device Center. Users can manage their entire fleet of devices from a single hub, easily switching between “home” and “office” profiles.

A standout addition is the dual-holding feature, which synchronizes phone calls and SMS verification codes in real-time across two Xiaomi phones logged into the same account. Cross-device connectivity (HyperConnect) also allows seamless hardware sharing, from utilizing a phone’s camera on a tablet to drawing on a Xiaomi Pad and seeing the results instantly on a PC.

AI Takes the Wheel: Super XiaoAi 2.0

The most significant leap in HyperOS 4 is the deeply integrated AI assistant, Super XiaoAi 2.0, powered by Xiaomi’s MiMo large models. Moving beyond simple Q&A, this assistant is now capable of executing complex, multi-step tasks.

A highly interactive new tool is the Inspiration Ball—a feature that “understands” on-screen context. Point it at an address, and it launches navigation; highlight a product, and it finds purchase links; select a photo, and you can ask the AI to erase people or change clothing.

Power users will appreciate Expert Mode, which unlocks high-level content generation. The AI can merge your personal notes with web data to autonomously draft comprehensive research reports, design PowerPoint presentations, or even generate basic websites and video edits. Native apps like Recorder and Notes also benefit, automatically generating summaries, outlines, and to-do lists from audio and text inputs.

Xiaomi HyperOS 4: Privacy Controls and the First Beta Wave

Given the deep integration of AI, Xiaomi has implemented strict security measures. Utilizing an “end-cloud” privacy computing framework, the system requires explicit user confirmation before the AI can modify, delete, or export any sensitive personal data.

The first wave of beta testing for HyperOS 4 has already commenced in China. Eligible devices include the Xiaomi 17 series (Standard, Pro, Pro Max), the Redmi K90 series (Standard, Pro, Pro Max Champion Edition), and the Xiaomi Pad 8 and Pad 8 Pro tablets. Full visual features, like the complete Soft Light Glass effects, will be restricted to devices running flagship silicon such as the Snapdragon 8 Elite or Dimensity 9500.
