HMD Terra M now hitting the selected markets across Europe

HMD Secure has announced that the HMD Terra M is now becoming available in select European markets, following its earlier introduction as a new ultra-rugged, mission-focused handset. So while Terra M is not a brand-new reveal, this marks the moment when the device actually starts reaching customers and enterprise deployments.

HMD Terra M can be seen as a modern evolution of the old but gold Nokia 800 Tough, keeping the compact rugged form factor and physical keypad, while adding a touchscreen, more advanced software platform, and a services-driven enterprise ecosystem.

Rather than being positioned as a typical smartphone, Terra M is offered as a fully managed mission-critical communication solution. It combines rugged hardware, Push-to-Talk over cellular, secure communications, managed connectivity, and enterprise-grade device management into a single platform.

Beyond the hardware, HMD is pushing a services-first approach. Organisations can deploy Terra M as part of a managed ecosystem that includes connectivity (IoT SIM and eSIM), Push-to-Talk services, secure messaging and voice, Mobile Device Management, and pre-loaded enterprise applications focused on privacy, navigation, and field productivity. The idea is not just to sell phones, but to deliver ready-to-use communication fleets that can replace legacy PTT radios and fragmented mobile setups.

The device targets frontline professionals such as first responders, security teams, construction workers, hospital staff, logistics operators, and critical infrastructure personnel who need dependable voice communication and long-term device support.

HMD Terra M features a glove-friendly 2.8-inch touchscreen, large physical keypad, loudspeaker with up to 100 dB output, and dedicated programmable Push-to-Talk and Emergency buttons. Connectivity includes 4G LTE, VoLTE, VoWiFi, dual Nano-SIM plus eSIM, and hotspot support.

On the durability side, Terra M is certified to IP68, IP69K and MIL-STD-810H, can survive drops up to 1.8 meters, and operates in temperatures from -25°C to +55°C.

HMD also promises an extended lifecycle with five years of quarterly security updates and one operating system upgrade, making Terra M suitable for long enterprise deployment cycles.

Charging is super slow for now thanks to a 5W charger, but is typical for rugged and industrial devices where battery longevity, thermal safety, and predictable charging in cradles matter more than fast top-ups.

Powering the device is the Qualcomm Dragonwing QCM2290, a platform designed for industrial and IoT use cases, prioritising stability, power efficiency, and long-term availability over raw performance — a sensible choice for mission-critical communication devices.

The HMD Terra M is now rolling out across select European markets through HMD Secure and its enterprise partners.

HMD has also confirmed it will be present at MWC 2026 in Barcelona, where Terra M and other enterprise-focused solutions are expected to be showcased.
