Nokia’s Stock in rise thanks to ASN Sale, 5G Leadership, and Lunar 4G Network
|Nokia stocks haven’t been performing well lately, but their price has started to rise recently. The reason for this could be due to trading knowledge I’m not familiar with, but it could also be linked to several pieces of good news announced recently. The first is Nokia completing the sale of Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN) to the French State. The second is Nokia’s announcement of reaching 7,000 patent families declared as essential to 5G. The third is that Nokia’s 4G network could finally be launched on the Earth’s satellite, marking the company’s entry into the space age.
Nokia has completed the sale of Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN) to the French State, finalizing the transaction on December 31, 2024. The sale allows Nokia to focus on its core Network Infrastructure portfolio while retaining a 20% stake and board representation until a planned exit. ASN, a global leader in submarine networks, is well-positioned for future growth under the French State, which has committed to supporting its sustainable development and technological advancements (Nokia).
Nokia has reached a milestone of 7,000 patent families declared essential to 5G, showcasing its leadership in cellular innovation. These patents cover critical technologies enabling smartphones, connected cars, and IoT devices to interact with 5G networks. With over €150 billion invested in R&D since 2000, Nokia’s portfolio underpins industries worldwide, with over 250 companies licensing its technologies on fair and non-discriminatory terms. This achievement highlights Nokia’s role in driving 5G and positions it strongly for upcoming 6G standardization (Nokia).
Nokia and Intuitive Machines have completed the final integration of Nokia’s Lunar Surface Communication System (LSCS) into the IM-2 lander, Athena, marking a key step toward deploying the first cellular network on the Moon. Using 4G/LTE technology adapted for lunar conditions, the network will support high-definition video, telemetry, and command communications for lunar vehicles, including the Micro-Nova Hopper and MAPP rover. The mission aims to demonstrate the viability of cellular connectivity for future lunar and Mars exploration and advance resource mapping on the Moon, supported by NASA’s Tipping Point initiative (source: Nokia)
The price of Nokia’s stock hasn’t been this high in a while, so this is good news.
