HMD Skylynx Satelite Locator Gets FCC Certification
|A strange-looking device from HMD Global has popped up on FCC pages under the model number TA-1698 and the codename Skylynx. The device, certified for the US market, isn’t a smartphone but a GPS locator, hinting that HMD is planning to enter a business beyond smartphones, tablets, and classic accessories.
The device comes with three antennas: NTN, GPS, and Bluetooth. Its main purpose is to communicate with satellites and transmit data to smartphones via Bluetooth. While other manufacturers are integrating satellite communication into their top-tier devices, HMD is likely aiming to enable multiple devices to connect to just one receiver. This product might be ideal for outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy rides in mountainous areas and other locations not covered by traditional networks.
The certification revealed that this device is manufactured by a Chinese company named Tinno, which refers to it as DW009 Satellite Locator. The same company also produces similar products like the Defy Satellite Link.
