HMD plans to continue the XR series with XR22
|Smashx_60 is back in action! This time, the specifications and likely the packaging of the HMD XR22, a potential successor to the solid Nokia XR21, have surfaced. Interestingly, while the HMD XR21 was essentially a rebranded Nokia XR21, its true predecessor is a Nokia-branded device.
With the HMD XR22, the company seems to be phasing out the Nokia name from the rugged smartphone segment. The XR22 looks like a promising follow-up, although it leaves room for higher expectations.
The leaked specs reveal significant upgrades, particularly in the display and camera departments. The phone boasts a bright OLED screen refreshed at 120 Hz, an 8MP night camera, and support for Qi 2.0 wireless charging. The good improvement, but not that impressive, is the use of SD6sGen3 which is more favoured by the western markets.
However, a more capable main and ultra-wide (UW) camera would have been welcome. Given the XR22’s rugged nature, users are likely to take it on adventures where capturing high-quality UW shots or regular photos is essential.
