HMD110 is the Nokia 125 4G for the EMEA Market

After a shift in its business strategy and Nokia’s apparent indifference toward its brand licensing, HMD Global has begun focusing on promoting its own smartphone brand. While I expected this move to be limited to smartphones, HMD has also started introducing feature phones originally branded with the Nokia logo under its own HMD branding.

This indicates that in some markets, HMD may phase out the Nokia brand entirely, keeping it only for the Originals series of feature phones. However, in certain markets, where Nokia has a strong feature phone presence and remains profitable, the brand still holds significance for HMD. One might even say that the Nokia feature phone brand is paying the Finns’ utility bills!

Aware of this, HMD continues releasing Nokia-branded phones sold as HMD-branded devices in regions like the EU. For example, after launching the Nokia 108 in China, HMD recently introduced the Nokia 125 4G, which is marketed as the HMD 110. This model will be available in the EMEA and SEA markets with the obvious addition of the 4G network capability. Interestingly, I can’t find the Nokia 125 (2024) dedicated website on HMD pages. The last one is the model from 2020.

In summary, Nokia-branded feature phones are being gradually phased out—a strategic decision by HMD. We all remember the fallout from the abrupt discontinuation of Symbian phones after the infamous Burning Memo.
