HMD Teams Up with Venom for the Fusion US Launch
To announce the arrival of the HMD Fusion device in the US market, HMD Global teamed up with the production team of the Venom movie to create an eye-catching promotional video. The short film showcased a futuristic “smart outfit” for the Fusion device, but this outfit—designed to transform the Fusion into a symbiote-like creature from space—was made specifically for the promo.
HMD produced only three of these unique outfits, as they are quite different. The design features 160 electromagnetic arrays that control a Venom-like liquid called ferrofluid, housed in a glass chamber. This chamber attaches to the Fusion via six pins. Once connected, the “Venom: The Last Dance” smart outfit changes the Fusion’s physical appearance and “Venomizes” its software, much like how Venom and Eddie Brock bond to form a fused entity in the film.
This reminds me of themes Nokia’s feature phones had, such as the “loud,” “silent,” and “meeting” profiles that would adjust the phone’s settings when activated (ringtones, keypad tones, etc.).
The following changes are made to the Fusion device when the “Venom: The Last Dance” outfit is activated:
- When the outfit is attached, and the Fusion boots up, you hear “We are Venom,” followed by an animation from the latest movie.
- The device includes movie-themed easter eggs, such as an alarm sound that chimes, “Eddie, the time has come,” and a notification alert that yells, “Who sent that thing?” in Venom’s voice.
- You’ll also find a voicemail message that says, “Eddie, I’m with you till the end.”
- To top it off, the ringtone features another famous line from the upcoming movie: “We are screwed,” voiced by Venom.
