Nokia signs a deal with At&t to boost their fiber broadband growth

Nokia’s new strategic deal with AT&T marks a significant comeback after challenges in 2023 when it lost the networking equipment deal with the telecom giant. Announced on September 3, 2024, this multi-year agreement positions Nokia as a key provider of next-generation fiber technology, helping AT&T expand and upgrade its extensive fiber network, which currently reaches 27.8 million locations.

The multi-year nature of the agreement provides Nokia with a steady revenue stream, which could significantly boost its financial performance and help regain market share lost to competitors in recent years.

Nokia’s Lightspan MF platform (which supports a wide range of PON technologies (10/25/50/100G), and Altiplano Access Controller will enable AT&T to offer faster, more reliable broadband services while enhancing network automation. This partnership aligns with U.S. infrastructure goals and restores confidence in Nokia’s ability to compete at the highest levels, opening the door for future growth and similar high-profile deals.

The agreement not only strengthens Nokia’s market position but also sets new industry standards for fiber deployment and automation, potentially pressuring competitors like Ericsson and Huawei to innovate further. This deal underscores Nokia’s resurgence as a leader in telecommunications infrastructure, poised for continued success and industry influence.

Nokia seems to be pushing fiber more and more.
