Imagine if HMD Tomcat was Nokia Tomcat

HMD Global didn’t turn out to be a good steward of the Nokia brand, and the story ended with them abandoning the famous brand instead of their own. Now, the newly released HMD devices aren’t telling us a much different story hardware-wise, although their colour palette is a bit better.

However, the HMD Tomcat (and probably the Nighthawk) might be telling a different story, one that might make me wish the Nokia story had ended with these devices. First, the revealed renders suggest we might be looking at a polycarbonate-made, Fabula-designed, colourful device. Then, the early Geekbench tests revealed that Tomcat will be powered by a Snapdragon 7 Gen2 processor, which is a decent midrange chip. HMD Memes also shared possible hardware specifications that make this device desirable.

Raun Forsyth is behind the design of this device, and he told fans over Discord that he is pretty happy with what he is doing. Judging by the renders, Tomcat might be the first decent HMD device since the Nokia 7 Plus. However, HMD will also need to invest in the camera and other software to make it even more desirable and usable.

The device should be coming in a month or so, and with the announcement day approaching, more info will likely be leaked. I can’t help but wonder if a Nokia device designed like this would boost sales.

How do you like the looks and specs? Could a device like this bring the Nokia logo back to your pockets, or are you done with it?
