Photo and video test of HMD Pulse (reader content)
|Our reader, Oliver, who recently acquired the HMD Pulse, the first HMD smartphone available on the market, conducted a brief camera test. He took a few shots with its main 13 MP camera and shot a short video. The photos were shared with us via Facebook, and I used WhatsApp to transfer them to the server, causing image algorithms to degrade the quality. Nevertheless, the photos taken with the 13 MP camera look impressive for an entry-level phone.
The colours can be a bit oversaturated when the object is shot from a short distance (check flowers), but in good light conditions, they look sharp with good dynamic range. Check out the photo samples.
He also recorded a short video, which, as expected, is shaky since no advanced stability algorithms are included in the camera software.
Check out the ringtones and notification chimes.

Oliver also shared a video that showcases the tones used by HMD with the HMD Pulse. These tones differ from the classic Nokia ringtones, featuring a modern, well-designed tone for call and message notifications, often characterized by a high-pitched sound. There is information coming from a tipster indicating that the sounds/ringtones for the HMD Pulse were designed or composed by Henry Daw, possibly the lead composer. Henry Daw, known for his work at Google behind the Pixel sound, lends credence to the Pixel-like quality of Pulse’s ringtones.
