Jean-Francois Baril to host HMD’s announcement

Only a few days left until the most exciting event in the mobile industry, Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, better known by its abbreviation MWC2024. At least, it is for me.

HMD is turning a new page. The company that brought the Nokia brand back to business is on the brink of something new. They are willing to leave the Nokia brand behind and pursue their strategy under their own brand, and also introduce some new ones.

I’m currently cheering for two: Alcatel and Jolla. Man, imagine the fabulous design reunited with the MeeGo offspring, Sailfish. That would be something, right? A proper European smartphone, something HMD is targeting. But, there will also be some new Nokia (feature) phones, probably a revamped Nokia 3310 with 5G capabilities, something that doesn’t belong to a feature phone but could be useful as a hotspot device.

Anyways, the new brand and new devices aren’t the only things that will be new. We might finally see HMD’s new CEO jumping on the stage and announcing the new strategy. The last one to do it was Florian Seiche last year. Since then, HMD hasn’t had a new CEO, at least not properly announced one. Now it seems that Jean-Francois is stepping in fully and taking the lead.

Jean Francois Baril is a Nokia legend, the mastermind behind Nokia’s well-known and praised logistics, which made the company as efficient as possible. He announced the news over his LinkedIn profile, and I must say I’m happy to see the Nokia hashtag there in front of the hmd2024 one, which might signify new Nokia smartphones, but let’s wait until Sunday, February 25th.

Cheers nloop for the idea 😉
