Nokia partnering with HERE to improve tracking, positioning and worker safety

Nokia announced that they are developing reliable worker communication and asset tracking for indoor and outdoor operations. This is important for increasing productivity and efficiency in complex industrial environments. To achieve this, Nokia has partnered with several companies, among which the most notable is HERE.

HERE will be offering its HD GNSS service, which provides accurate outdoor location tracking for machinery and people in industrial sites by using a Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS)-based positioning solution. However, this service is just one part of the applications for tracking and positioning that also include Nordic ID and Svarmony-Aryve.

Nordic ID is offering a complete RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) solution that incorporates devices and software to identify and track the flow of assets down to a single item’s digital identity. On the other hand, Svarmony-Aryve is providing VPS (Visual Positioning System) for navigation on mobile devices, which helps workers in complex work environments find their way with visual cues for additional information.

It is nice to see Nokia working with HERE, its former department, which was sold to a consortium of German automotive companies (comprising Audi AG, BMW AG, and Daimler AG) in December 2015. Since then, HERE has become a leader in location platform business, even better than Google in some aspects.
