Optimisation Bumps and Camera Jumps for T20 and XR21

The year 2023 brought many changes to HMD, and one thing that many wanted to see changed was the speed of updates being delivered to Nokia phones. Although I thought that HMD had finally improved in that aspect, the latest security updates are once again arriving a month or two late, and Android 14 is nowhere to be seen, not even on Geekbench.

However, something is being done, and some devices are receiving new Build updates, such as the Nokia T20 tablet and Nokia XR21 5G. Security updates being late seem to me like preparation for a more thorough release of Android 14. Anyways, I might be wrong, so let’s cover the things we have now.

Nokia T20 and XR21 are receiving new Build updates. The T20 update is V3.310 and has just 46.06 MB in size. It brings November patch although we are deep in December. I haven’t noticed anything drastically different. It seems that the update is available globally, at least for the LTE version. The tablet is still performing well, and I consider it to be a good purchase even today.

The Build update is also available for Nokia XR21, and it is considerably larger at 176 MB. The number behind it is V2.300, and it brings the usual system updates and UI enhancements. The installation process took a while, but I haven’t seen big changes. The biggest might be the new software patch for the camera app. The previous version was 98.13.42602.20, while the new one is 98.13.43402.10. The camera of XR21 is producing quite nice shots, making it one of the best (EU made/assembled) rugged phones you can get on the market.

The update for XR21 is available in a lot of markets, so do check yours for update availability.
