Android 13 gets tested on Nokia phones

Nokia Mobile has announced in pre-briefs for the Nokia X30 5G model that this phone has been assigned to the Android Developer Preview program. This means that the latest Android OS version, Android 13, is being worked on closely with Google and developers can test their apps on X30 before the stable version comes. Additionally, being in the developer program usually suggests that the phone on which the latest OS version is first being tested on is the first one to get it.

The stable version of Android 13 was released on August 15, and the first phones to receive it were the Google Pixel phones. This update still did not work properly, so it’s not always beneficial to have the latest OS in a stable version either. Anyway, Google has mentioned that the update should be available for other brands by the end of 2022. Besides Asus, Motorola, OnePlus, Oppo, Realme, Sony, Xiaomi and Samsung, Nokia phones should also be included.

According to the latest Geekbench listings for the Nokia X30, Android 13 is tested on Nokia Mobile’s latest midranger. The Nokia X30 was spotted in this test on November 5 and scored 657 points in the single-core test and 1920 points in the multi-core test, which is not much different from the results of the X30 with Android 12. The result means that the next OS version will not slow down the SD 695 5G processor, which is good news.

I did the same check for Nokia G60 5G, Nokia X20, Nokia XR20, Nokia X10, and Nokia G50 and found that Android 13 has been tested on those devices also. The dates go back from before the release of the stable version for X20, to late October for G60 5G. One could question the reliability of the Geekbench listings, but this could also suggest that Nokia Mobile is being more active with the tests of latest OS versions for its models. The Android 12 release roadmap was pretty long and I do hope that with Android 13 we’ll have a clear roadmap released.

Now everyone would like to know when exactly Android 13 will be released for the X30, or for other Nokia devices for that matter. This answer cannot be said with certainty. It’s been a long time since the first Geekbench tests were run for some models and X30 is the freshest of them all. We know from the Android 12 release dates of some Nokia models that the initial results on Geekbench do not indicate that the update will be released anytime soon. However, we know for sure that Android 13 is coming! Not bad, not bad at all.
