Nokia Z series affordable flagship announcement questionable
|Nokia Mobile recently announced a lot of sub 250 USD smartphones to bring the brand closer to the masses. The phones are mostly using more affordable Unisoc processors which are not as capable as Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 480 5G, but the phones are still built like tanks and have long battery life.
However, most of the fans are waiting for an affordable flagship that should replace the older Nokia 8.3 5G. Nokia Mobile announced at press briefing events that we could see something like that by the end of 2022, and now a render of the Nokia Z series phone leaked. This render is based on the information leaked by HMD Global employee based in Shenzen, China where the phone is being developed by an ODM partner.
New Nokia Z should be coming with the latest SD 7XX processor, have a triple camera setup (64+16+2 MP) with Zeiss lenses, 8/256 GB RAM and a large 6000 mAh battery with 25W fast charging.
Nokia Z should be available as a foldable and regular bar phone which is consistent with previous leaks of Nokia developing foldable phones. However, since the first leaks, Nokia Mobile had big changes in the management and the foldable version is probably being shelved. However, the regular smartphone version could be shelved also, and the only person to blame is President Putin.
Due to the Russian aggression on Ukraine, Nokia pulled out from the Russian market and Nokia Mobile followed the same move since HMD is obliged by contract to follow Nokia’s decisions. Since the letter Z is now connected with the act of aggression, the announcement of the Nokia Z series is questionable. Even Nokia’s Z Launcher has been pulled from the Google Play store and who knows when will it be restored and if it will carry the same name.
We contacted Nokia Mobile and they have sent a short reply: “We condemn the Russian aggression on Ukraine, but we can not comment on the future or unannounced Nokia devices”.
