Nokia names Ericsson’s veteran Nishant Batra as new Chief Strategy and Technology Officer

Nokia appointed a new Chief Strategy and Technology Officer who will also be a member of the Nokia Group Leadership Team. Nishant Batra, who is coming from Veoneer in Sweden, a company that does automotive technology where he held the position of Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, will be taking new position at Nokia on January 18, 2021. An interesting fact about Nishant is that he is an Ericsson veteran since he has been working there in several positions for twelve years. The most recent position in Ericsson was the Head of Product Area Networks back in 2018. Nokia will be using Nisshant’s huge experience from technology to telecoms, and benefit from his knowledge of the enterprise sector, and the emerging trends in the global market.
Nishant was born in 1978 in India and has a master’s degree in telecommunications and a master’s degree in computer science from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. He will be based in Espoo, Finland, but later, he will be moving to the US. His main goal will probably be to position Nokia the best in the 5G game and continue to create new innovations with Nokia Bell Labs. Nishant will report to Nokia’s President and Chief Executive Officer Pekka Lundmark.
Pekka Lundmark is still reshaping the company and refreshing leaders in key positions. This change will be interesting also for Gabriela Styf Sjöman, who held the CSO position since the summer of 2019, and now will obviously be finding a new place inside or outside of the company.
