Official: This is Nokia 7.2
|Nokia Mobile announced the Nokia 7.2 which is a successor of Nokia 7.1. The phone is beautifully designed with a noticeable but well-derived camera module which brings us back to the time of the Lumia 830.
The main feature of this phone, besides its design and huge 6.3 inch display, is a triple camera setup that brings 48 MP main sensor for the first time on a globally available Nokia phone. The sensor has Quad Pixel technology and is backed with AI. Next to it are an 8MP wideangle camera and below it a 5MP depth sensor for creation of nice bokeh images. On the front, there is a 20 MP camera with same Quad Pixel sensor technology, and all cameras have ZEISS lenses.
ZEISS was involved a lot in the development of both hardware and software for the camera system of Nokia 7.2. There is now much-improved portrait mode with unique ZEISS bokeh styles; ZEISS Modern, ZEISS Swirl, and AI-powered Night mode with image fusion and exposure stacking for taking great low light photos.
The device’s front is protected with Gorilla 3 glass, same as the back, and has thin bezels with a chin and a waterdrop notch. It is dominated by a 6.3 inch LCD FullHD screen with PureDisplay technology we saw on the predecessor. Nokia Mobile has been working with Pixelworks whose visual processor upscales video content to HDR in real-time. The result is up to 10x higher color accuracy, a better contrast ratio of the screen with up to a billion shades of color, higher contrast, and an expanded dynamic range that changes automatically in different light conditions.
Nokia Mobile did upgrade the processor of Nokia 7.2, but to an old Snapdragon 660 which supports 48 MP cameras. This is a bit strange decision but this also means that this processor can endure two OS upgrades. There will be variants with 4GB and 6 GB of LPPDDR4x RAM and 64GB and 128GB of internal memory, that can be extended with microSD card up to 512 GB.
The device has two microphones but still don’t know if it will be coming with OZO Audio support. There is a dedicated headphone jack, and the device will support FM Radio. It will have WiFi, BT, NFC (SKU1), GPS, and a bunch of sensors. The Google button also came to midrange class, and there is also nice notification light embedded in the power button, which is also something we saw previously on Nokia 4.2 and 3.2.
The juice will be coming from 3500 mAh battery that will be charged by 10W charger over the Type C USB (USB 2.0) port.
