First rugged Nokia official: Nokia 800 Tough

Nokia Mobile today announced its first rugged device since the return of the Nokia brand to the market. The Nokia 800 Tough comes with military grade certificates, water and dust resistance, long lasting battery and 4G LTE.

The 800 Tough comes in a rugged body, features an anti-slip grip thanks to rubber edges and also comes with bigger buttons than usual Nokia feature phones. The screen is 2.4” in diagonal, which is on the bigger side in the world of feature phones. Nokia Mobile says that the device is resistant to water, sand, dust and extreme temperatures. On the backside we can see 4 screws on the housing with a metal-like coating on the camera housing. The back side really does give a military vibe, especially the “Desert Sand” color, while the “Black Steel” is more for black ops.

The phone’s dimensions are 145.4mm x 62.1mm x 16.11mm, with a weight of 161g. The 800 Tough has an IP68 certificate, meaning the device is dustproof and waterproof (up to 1.5m for 30 minutes). The phone also carries US military’s MIL-STD-810G certificate.

Under the armor, we find Qualcomm 205 Mobile platform with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage, expandable via MicroSD card up to 32GB. The 800 Tough supports 4G LTE, as well as VoLTE. The phone also has WiFI and supports VoWiFi. GPS, 3.5mm headphone jack and Bluetooth 4.1 are also on-board.

The rear camera features a 2MP sensor and LED flash. The microUSB 2.0 port on the bottom charges the 2100mAh battery that should secure up to 43.7 days of standby time, depending on the usage. The phone supports nano SIM and has a dedicated torch.

This feature phone isn’t strong yet dumb, because it comes with the smart feature OS KaiOS that we saw on the Nokia 8110 4G. The 800 Tough comes with Whatsapp and Facebook pre-installed. Google Maps and Google Assistant are there as well to help you navigate on your adventures.
