HMD protected the design of Nokia 3310 3G and 4G

After protecting the design of the new Nokia 3310 (2017), HMD protected the looks of its latest iterations, Nokia 3310 3G and 4G. Nokia 3310 4G kept her looks after the Nokia 3310 (2017), but it’s a bit thicker, just like 3G version. The other significant differences when compared to the original are the position of LED light, which is now moved above the camera, and new position of the loudspeaker grill, which is now placed lower left on the back cover.

The design for Nokia 3310 3G/4g was filed on 21st August last year, and has been made public today. The designer of the phone is Frida Andersson, according to EUIPO.

Since new Nokia 3310, in all its variations, was an enormous marketing success, it is logical move from HMD to protect its design. You saw that many smaller companies already started manufacturing/selling similarly looking devices that can sometimes be distinguished from the 3310 just by the brand printing. Our dear friends from Techbuzzireland saw that Irish Argus started selling their own version of 3310 and it will be interesting to see how HMD will respond to all that. Maybe it is time to start charging other companies that are using their own design, or they could tighten the leaks in the factories.

Anyway, there are still patent applications for 8 unknown HMD products, that is, by the way, truly becoming Home of Nokia devices. Maybe HMD patented some specific Nokia accessories that will be revealed at MWC2018. Who knows, but one thing is for sure, HMD is getting stronger by all of these patents and it could be preparing for legal fights with anyone using their design without proper authorization or compensation.
