HMD protected the design of a new Nokia device (EUIPO)

We heard lately that HMD might be preparing a lot of phones for this year, from bezel-less smartphones to 4G feature phones. HMD has also been regularly submitting new design to EU’s IP protection office called EUIPO. The latest patent was registered today (but all details aren’t available) and is subject to deferment. The design patent under the numberĀ 004547313-0001 was filed on 14th December, and is the design patent for the 9th unknown Nokia device, whose design HMD submitted for protection.

From the 2017 lineup, protected device are Nokia 3, 5, 6, 8 and 3310. Announced phones like Nokia 105 (2017), Nokia 130 (2017), Nokia 2 and Nokia 7 have not yet appeared in the EUIPO. If we subtract these four devices from the 9 unknown that are protected, that leaves us with 5, probably, unannounced phones, accessories or other patentable inventions HMD’s plans to offer.

It will be interesting to see what device are hidden behind these patents. If you want to check HMD’s full portfolio at EUIPO, click here.
