First software updates available for #Nokia 3 & 5

HMD Global today pushed the first software update for Nokia 3 and Nokia 5. The Nokia 3 received the May Android Security update, probably because of the problematic MediaTek chipset. HMD already said that the Android 7.1.1 update for Nokia 3 is running late compared to the Nokia 5 and 6, because they the chipset doesn’t support the new version of Google’s OS, and HMD and MediaTek are jointly working to bring Android 7.1.1 to Nokia 3 as fast as possible.

Nokia 5’s update is 283MB in size and includes the June security patch and improvements in stability and user interface. Nokia 5 didn’t receive the latest July security patch, probably because it’s still under testing for the 5. The 5 uses Snapdragon 430 platform and should not have problems with updates in the future. Also, an advisory notice that reminds of additional charges if the updates were downloaded via cellular network was added.

HMD’s Nokia 6 was the first smartphone to receive the July security update this month for the TA-1003 model, but HMD also pushed an update to the Chinese TA-1000 model that enables Google Play Store installation.
