#Nokia design patents transferred from #Microsoft to #HMD; Lumia Camera UI included

According to EUIPO, about 500 design patents previously owned by Microsoft Mobile Oy were transferred to its new owner, HMD Global Oy. HMD Global is a Finnish startup responsible for creating the next generations of Nokia smartphones and feature phones. Probably the most interesting design patent is the one for the Lumia Camera UI, which is by far the most intuitive camera app and we could soon see it on the new Nokia Android devices, because HMD now owns the design.

Trademarks like PureView, ClearBlack or PureMotion are still registered as Microsoft Mobile’s IP, but there is a high possibility that the trademarks could be transferred as well to HMD. Microsoft Mobile still has about 200 design patents left, according to EUIPO.

Camera UI patent

This is great news for all Nokia fans, because now a part of Nokia legacy, that was bought by Microsoft, returned back to Finland to HMD Global. These transferred designs are probably a part of the mobile Business that Microsoft sold to FIH Mobile last year for about $350 million. The only thing missing now are the famous trademarks.

You can check all HMD’s IP registered at EUIPO here.

What do you think, will we see the Lumia Camera UI on future Nokia Android smartphones? 🙂
