Garmin Approach S72 Smartwatch: High-end Golf Watch Revealed
Garmin has expanded its high-end golf lineup with the launch of the Approach S72, a flagship smartwatch that borrows key hardware and lifestyle upgrades from the brand’s top-tier outdoor series. Priced at $799.99, the device pairs advanced wrist-based swing telemetry with all-day health tracking, with orders opening on October 9.
Refined Hardware Meets Outdoor Durabilty
Designed for both performance on the links and everyday wearability, the Approach S72 debuts in two case sizes: 43mm and 47mm. Both variants feature a titanium bezel, a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal lens, and Garmin’s new ComfortFit fabric strap. The 43mm model sports a vibrant 1.3-inch AMOLED display and weighs in at a light 41 grams.
Garmin has also integrated popular hardware features from its multisport devices, including a built-in LED flashlight. Power management remains strong, delivering up to 10 days of continuous battery life in standard smartwatch mode and roughly 15 hours of active GPS tracking during a round of golf.
Advanced Swing Telemetry and Biometric Scorekeeping
Preloaded with maps for more than 43,000 courses globally, the Approach S72 introduces several software updates focused on player performance. The watch measures swing mechanics directly from the wrist—tracking hand speed, backswing length, and wrist rotation without requiring external club sensors.
A new biometric integration overlays heart rate trends onto post-round scorecards, helping players analyze how physical exertion, stress, or fatigue impacted performance on specific holes. These features build upon Garmin’s core golf suite, which includes Virtual Caddie recommendations, wind- and elevation-adjusted PlaysLike yardages, aerial course imagery, and green contour mapping.
Full-Featured Smartwatch Connectivity
Beyond golf analytics, the S72 functions as a complete daily wearable, taking cues from Garmin’s Venu and Fenix series. An integrated microphone and speaker allow users to answer phone calls and interact with their smartphone’s voice assistant directly from the wrist.
Health and wellness features are equally comprehensive. The watch supports Garmin’s ECG app to detect signs of atrial fibrillation, alongside continuous heart rate variability (HRV) status, blood oxygen monitoring, and sleep tracking. Rounding out its daily utility are multi-band GPS, contactless Garmin Pay, and offline music storage for apps like Spotify.
