Acer Predator Atlas 7 Gaming Handheld: 120Hz Display, Thunderbolt 4 and Wi‑Fi 7

Acer is expanding its Windows gaming handheld portfolio with the Predator Atlas 7, announced at the company’s IFA press conference in Berlin. The new device serves as a more compact, 7-inch alternative to the 8-inch Predator Atlas 8 revealed earlier this year. Alongside the Atlas 7, Acer also showcased a concept device called Project DualPlay Mini, which explores a hybrid between a handheld console and a miniature productivity laptop.

Large battery in a small chassis

Acer has managed to fit an 80Wh battery into the Atlas 7’s 7-inch chassis — an unusually high capacity for a handheld of this size. The trade-off is weight: the 80Wh version tips the scales at 750 grams.

For users who prioritize portability, Acer is also offering a 60Wh battery configuration, which reduces the weight to just under 700 grams. This gives buyers a clear choice between maximum runtime and a lighter, more portable device.

Intel Arc power and upgrade-friendly design

Internally, the Atlas 7 is powered by Intel’s latest mobile silicon. The top configuration features:

• Intel Arc G3 Extreme processor

• Intel Arc B390 graphics

The system supports up to 24GB of RAM and includes a standard M.2 2280 slot for storage, allowing users to install drives of up to 1TB or more. This design should make future storage upgrades straightforward.

To manage thermals, Acer employs a dual-fan cooling system that combines a thin metal fan with a conventional plastic fan, aiming to balance cooling performance with noise and space constraints.

120Hz display and premium controls

The Atlas 7 uses a 7-inch 1080p IPS touchscreen with:

• 120Hz refresh rate

• 500 nits peak brightness

• Support for variable refresh rate (VRR)

On the control side, Acer includes:

• Hall-effect analog triggers for improved durability and precision

• An optional TMR (tunneling magnetoresistance) joystick design intended to reduce stick drift over time

Connectivity and features include:

• Two Thunderbolt 4 ports

• UHS-II microSD card slot

• Wi‑Fi 7

• Fingerprint reader integrated into the power button

These specifications position the Atlas 7 as a high-end Windows handheld focused on performance, upgradeability and long gaming sessions.

Project DualPlay Mini: handheld meets mini-laptop concept

Acer also used IFA to present Project DualPlay Mini, an 8-inch concept device with a flip-and-swivel hinge that reveals a built-in backlit keyboard. The idea is to allow multiple usage modes:

• Traditional controller-based handheld gaming

• Keyboard-and-screen setup for first-person shooters or other PC-style games

• Compact mobile workstation for light productivity tasks

As a concept, there are no current plans for commercial release. Acer marked its 50th anniversary by engraving a Morse code message on the back of the prototype.

Pricing and availability

The Predator Atlas 7 is scheduled to launch:

• In North America during the fourth quarter of 2026

• In EMEA regions in November 2026

The larger Predator Atlas 8 remains on track to arrive in September 2026. Acer has not yet announced pricing for the Atlas 7.
