Redmi 17 5G Specs and Price: 6.9-Inch Display, Unisoc T8300 and 6,300mAh Battery

Redmi has officially introduced the Redmi 17 5G in China as a budget-focused smartphone built around battery endurance, a large high-refresh-rate display and essential modern connectivity. The device ships with Xiaomi HyperOS 3, offers expandable storage and includes features that are increasingly rare in lower-priced phones, such as a 3.5mm headphone jack and wired reverse charging.
The launch arrives as reports continue to circulate about an international version of the Redmi 17 5G. While the Chinese model is now official, early leaks indicate that the global variant could differ in both its specifications and design.
Redmi 17 5G: Large display with 120Hz refresh rate
The Redmi 17 5G features a 6.9-inch HD+ LCD screen with a waterdrop-style notch and a 1600 x 720-pixel resolution. It supports a 120Hz refresh rate for smoother animations and scrolling, alongside a touch sampling rate of up to 240Hz.
Redmi has also included DC dimming, a claimed peak global brightness of 800 nits and TÜV Rheinland triple eye-protection certification. Wet Touch 2.0 is another notable addition, designed to improve touchscreen responsiveness when users have wet fingers.
Unisoc chip and expandable storage
Powering the handset is Unisoc’s 6nm T8300 octa-core processor, clocked at up to 2.2GHz. Buyers can choose between 4GB or 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM, while both configurations offer 128GB of UFS 2.2 internal storage.
A dedicated microSD card slot allows users to expand capacity without giving up a second SIM position. The phone runs Xiaomi HyperOS 3 straight out of the box, bringing the company’s latest software to its affordable 5G segment.
6,300mAh battery takes centre stage
Battery life is the Redmi 17 5G’s main selling point. It packs a 6,300mAh battery, which Xiaomi says is engineered to maintain its health for up to four years.
Charging is limited to 15W over a cable, so replenishing such a large battery may take time. Still, the phone supports 7.5W wired reverse charging, allowing it to supply power to smaller accessories or another device in a pinch. It also supports PD and QC charging standards.
Basic cameras and practical extras
Camera hardware is modest, as expected from a phone in this price range. The Redmi 17 5G has a 13MP rear camera and an 8MP front-facing shooter for selfies and video calls.
The device also includes 5G, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.4, USB-C, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It measures 171.56 x 79.47 x 8.15mm and weighs 210g, reflecting the trade-off that comes with its oversized battery and 6.9-inch display.
Redmi 17 5G specifications
The Redmi 17 5G is available in China in two memory configurations. The 4GB + 128GB version is priced at 999 yuan, or roughly $150, while the 6GB + 128GB model costs 1,199 yuan, approximately $180.
At those prices, Redmi is clearly prioritising practical essentials over premium specifications. The Redmi 17 5G offers a large display, 5G connectivity and unusually strong battery capacity, but its HD+ panel, entry-level cameras and 15W charging confirm its position at the affordable end of the market.
