WhatsApp Writing Help With AI-Powered Message Suggestions Launches Globally
|WhatsApp has begun rolling out a new tool called WhatsApp Writing Help, designed to make drafting messages smoother and more flexible. The feature provides AI-generated suggestions to rephrase texts in different tones — professional, lighthearted, or supportive — depending on what you’re trying to convey.
When composing a message in a one-on-one or group chat, users can tap the pencil icon to see alternative phrasings. From there, they can choose one of the suggestions, tweak it, or simply stick to their original message.
WhatsApp Writing Help – Privacy questions addressed
Given that AI is involved, many users immediately wonder: Is this private? WhatsApp says it is. Writing Help runs on Private Processing, a system that allows Meta’s AI to generate suggestions without Meta or WhatsApp reading the actual messages.
To bolster trust, WhatsApp says it worked with external security experts, while independent audits from NCC Group and Trail of Bits validated the design. Meta has also published an engineering blog and a technical white paper explaining how the system operates and supports new tools such as Writing Help and Message Summaries.
Optional, and limited for now
WhatsApp emphasizes that Writing Help is entirely optional. The feature is off by default, leaving users free to enable it only if they want to try it. Currently, it is available only in English across the United States and a handful of other regions, with more languages and markets planned later this year.
More upgrades for group calls
In parallel, WhatsApp has also introduced new group calling features. Users can now schedule calls with calendar invites, manage attendees, and receive notifications before calls begin. During calls, participants can raise hands or send reactions, while call link creators receive alerts when someone joins. Importantly, all these features remain end-to-end encrypted, staying in line with WhatsApp’s long-standing security promise.
